My 20th Birthday at the JUNOS!
Friends! I am officially 20 years old and no longer a 'teen'! How crazy is that? Does that mean I actually have to take responsibility for my actions now? Frig... I could not have spent my birthday in a more fulfilling way. As some of you know, I volunteered at various JUNO Week events this past week, including the JUNO Fanfare and the actual JUNO Broadcast. My birthday just happened to fall on the day of the broadcast - which was awesome. I really enjoyed being a part of something that was so much bigger than myself. I met so many inspiring people and gained invaluable experience. At 7:30a.m. I was at North Campus decorating for our art show, Treasure Arrrt. Once the decorations were up and the art was in its proper place, the space looked absolutely incredible. I'm so proud of my PR friends. Everyone worked so hard to achieve the same goal and it was inspiring to be a part of. At 1:30, I left straight from North Campus and headed to the Air Canada Centre where I was to escort media. Of course I got lost on the way and was told by someone in Union Station to head towards the Rogers Centre and not the Air Canada Centre. I found my way through the chaos eventually. Who knew the JUNOs were such a big deal? :P I escorted the media to the media room, as well as to various areas throughout the venue. I saw some familiar faces from the day before at the FanFare, so it was nice to hear how they were enjoying the JUNO Week activities. Though I was supposed to finish my volunteering at 8p.m., I offered to stick around for as long as I was needed, and ended up leaving after the broadcast was finished, around 11:30p.m. I didn't mind though..I was excited just to be there. My duty from 8:30-11p.m. was to ensure every artist that needed to be interviewed, found their way to the press room. Basically I stood backstage and watched some of my favourite artists walk around and interact with the media. Some of the highlights of my week included meeting the Holmes Creative Communications team, meeting various people from the media, interacting with some of my favourite artists, including: Hedley, Billy Talent, Faber Drive, Sweet Thing, Shad, and Neil Young, and being a part of the JUNOs broadcast. Needless to say, it was a fantastic week, and an even better way to spend my 20th birthday. Thank you, friends, for the constant love and support, and I hope you are looking forward to the end of another school year, and the beginning of new summer adventures! -Satisfy my Soul
