Pushy Salespeople Harsh my Mellow..And my Wallet.

Sadly readers, there will be no visual assistance today (*sob*sob* I feel your pain). However, there will be a lovely venting about people who, instead of assisting you in your shopping experience, decide to pressure you into spending money you don't have and force you to lie, just so you can escape them.

My roommate and I went to Yorkdale today to pick up a dress she had seen a few days ago. As we're skipping merrily along after sitting in one of those photo booths that everybody sees in movies, but rarely ever ventures into, a young woman steps out from a kiosk and insists she has something revolutionary to share with us. Now readers, it's not that I'm necessarily one for revolutionary products, but I cannot say 'no' when it comes to desperate people just trying to do their job. So my roommate and I went over and sat down on the chairs she provided as she began to explain about a line of new mineral makeup products that were all natural and therefore healthier for the wearer's skin. Obviously I was intrigued, so I allowed her to show me some shades on my hand, all the while complimenting my roommate and I on how 'adorable' and 'beautiful' we both were. Sadly, flattery does go a long way.

She showed us how the shades could transform into a cream eyeshadow(just by applying a bit of water), how it could turn into a lip gloss(just by applying a bit of clear lip balm), and how it could even work as hair highlighter for the summer (without asking, she showed us this by putting it in our hair). I was impressed, overall, with the line, but I was awaiting the sales pitch. "Normally, these would be $25 each..but I'll give you 18 of them for only $180!" (I'm sorry, after talking me up and learning I'm a FULL TIME student, you're asking me to spend $180 on shades of makeup? HA!) "So how will you be paying for this?" (...I don't recall agreeing to even buying this...) "Oh really...you don't have money? Not credit or debit or cash? What about just buying four for $50?" (I don't DO credit *lie* and my math isn't very good, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to pay $50 for four shades of eyeshadow/lip balm/hair highlight). "*sigh* what about just one? They're normally $25 each, but I'll give it to you for $15...Just don't tell anyone, I could get in a lot of trouble." (Oops! Disregard that readers!)

So I folded. I bought one shade of eyeshadow for $15. I just can't say 'no' to those people! She was so nice initially...and now I'm venting about these antics in this blog. Oh well. If I can offer any advice based on this experience, readers, it's to not make eye contact, and if those desperate kiosk people say anything to you, turn your head the other way and keep walking.

Satisfy my Soul

  1. Oh I LOATHE pushy sales people! In white oaks there used to be this place, sort of near the food court ish, that sold various skin care products and there were always people in white coats standing in front of the shop trying to convince people to come try the products. I always walked by them as quickly as I could. SO ANNOYING.

Also this one time I went into Jacob Lingerie just to browse and this really pushy sales lady came up and asked what size I was, and without even asking if I wanted to try one on, grabbed a bra and shoved me and it into a fitting room. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the price. Not wanting to pay $50 for a bra, I went back out into the store, put it back on the rack, and told her it didn't fit right. She then kept asking exactly what was wrong with the fit and kept insisting she could help me find the perfect bra. She would not accept any of my excuses! I finally said NO THANKS in an angry voice and stormed out of the store. I think I ended up buying a bra from Wal Mart that day LOL!
