Good evening my loves!
I hope you have all been having an eventful week! I returned to Toronto a few hours ago after spending a week in Cayo Guillermo, Cuba! We went to the Iberostar Daiquiri resort, which was absolutely beautiful. The islands of Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo are breathtaking and serene. There are no locals that live on these islands..the majority of workers commute from the main island of Cuba, which is connected to these smaller islands by a causeway. Needless to say, our resorts were quite isolated from the 'real' Cuba..which could be viewed as good or bad, depending on whether or not you are content with living on a resort for a week, or if you'd prefer to visit the 'real' Cuba (approximately 150km away).
Going to Cuba was a great experience. I had my first flight, my first allergic reaction, my first sunburnt bum, my first time horseback riding on the beach, my first time snorkeling, and my first time being pursued by an arrogant, skull-tattooed, buff, wife-beater-wearing, shaved head, pierced-eared buffoon. A great experience indeed.
I wish I could find the perfect words to describe the flight. When taking off, it's like a roller coaster. The plane rises and you begin to tip back..it feels as though you might tip so far back, you could fall over backwards. Before you know it, the plane has straightened out, and you're flying parallel to the clouds, which form their own world beneath you. It's rather calming, not being able to see the rest of the world hustling by. It's really quite timeless when you're flying above the clouds and nothing is passing you by. Landing is a funny feeling..it's the sensation of falling. That's the only possible way I can explain it. There's a brief moment where you feel your heart and stomach get caught in your throat, and then, just as quickly as it appeared, that sensation is gone. It was such a smooth flight, there and back, I would definitely fly again.
The vacation itself was incredible. I cannot go into as much detail as I'd like, but I have pictures on Facebook that you can look at to get an idea of what my week was like. It was relaxing, adventurous, fun, and revitalizing, all at the same time.
I enjoyed my week in Cuba, greatly, and would recommend it for anyone looking to travel in the future. I'll probably blog more about my trip later, however, I'm super tired, and shall pull a 'grandfather' and go to sleep early.
