I am done class this week. This will officially mark the end of my second year of college...one year to go, and I'll be in the 'real world'. I don't know if I'm ready, to be honest.
One week has gone by since I met with Elmer Olsen, but I'm not closer to making a decision. I read a quote yesterday that really struck me:
"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be."
This seems like an equation to me, almost.
What I am = student
What I might be = international model
When I let go of being a student, I become an international model? Weird. It doesn't sound right when I say it out loud. Nothing ever sounds right when I say it out loud. But does it feel right? I can't answer that either.
I know that I'm content living the life of a student, but would I be more content building a platform for myself? I could use this platform for so much... there's a lot I want to accomplish - a lot I plan on accomplishing with or without the title of 'international model'. Would this title make it easier? Certainly. But I've never had things handed to me - I've always worked hard for the things I have. I've always wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. This would certainly be bigger than anything I could've ever imagined.
I'm still so undecided. I've been too busy worrying about finishing this semester and finding a summer job to actually take the time to think about everything with a clear mind. I don't think it's bad that I don't know where I'm going just yet. I had a complete life plan as of two weeks ago that has been completely disheveled since my meeting. Maybe this is a sign that I underestimate my abilities. Maybe this is a sign that life doesn't revolve around a 'plan'. At least not one that we non-divine beings create for ourselves...
I'm working through my thoughts slowly, but I'm going home for Easter this weekend and will hopefully be able to talk things through with my family. They always seem to offer a fresh perspective. They always have the best intentions, and want what's best for me. Do they know what's best for me? That's a different story. In the mean time, I've got a biography and communications plan to finish, and a movie to watch illegally.
Good luck with your exams and dilemmas, friends.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail...
"Oh wait! It's just me! But Peter left this basket of chocolate for me this morning. He says to help yourself!" Thank you Grandma for being you.

So Easter festivities were certainly interesting this year.. Now that my cousins and I are getting older, our families tend to share some rather explicit information with us..information I could definitely do without. For example, my sister insists I will never end up with a man because, "No man would ever put up with you. You're too opinionated," and when I proved her wrong by telling her that I have had some very intelligent people interested in me before and that there is more to me than she knows, my grandma randomly chimes in "I don't care what they are, as long as they got some meat on the bones." Oh, you think that's bad? She then states (as we all burst into laughter), "What? It's true! I like something to grab onto!" Grandma, Grandma, Grannnnnndmaaaa. As your granddaughter, this is information that turns my stomach - though it does provide me with entertainment, I could do without those images in my head.
While Grandma is certainly one of a kind, she provides us with great advice on the aspect of marriage. She swears by 5 things that will lead to a strong and forever-lasting marriage. They are:
1. Humour (Find somebody that can make you laugh and that can laugh at themselves)
2. Communication (Find somebody that listens and speaks their feelings)
3. Love (Find someone that you truly love more than anything)
4. Chivalry (Find someone that will open the door for you, pull out your chair, and tell you 'I love you' every day.
5. Great in bed (...I feel kind of awkward for this one, thanks G-ma)
So, overall, I can't disagree. The lady knows what she's talking about. She's been married for 48 years after all.
Before this wondrous occasion, however, I had the pleasure of going down to Long Point with my friends from home and partying in cottages, outside, and on the beach. It was a grand time and I was extremely excited to see everyone after being away from them for so long. I can't wait for the summer when every weekend is filled with similar times.
I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend just as much as I did!
